Mechanic Shop recommendation in NorCal

Hey Rovers!

I need help finding a good mechanic shop that actually knows/works on Series trucks in the SF Bay Area. All the “British/European” shops near me won’t work on anything older than about 10 years, and all the Off Road shops I called sound like enthusiastic first-time-LR-mechanics. I don’t have the space to do the job I need, but I don’t want to give it to random mechanics. I need someone who knows Series. They’re different(brass shims and weird stuff American/Japanese/German cars don’t have). I need Series Pros. Someone who respects classics cars(and won’t drill thru my NOS $900 dashboard to install a $5 switch, or damage or throw away a piece you can’t buy anymore, etc).

It sounds like you know what to do here. I wish you luck. you are approaching this the right way and i hope you're prepared to truck it a ways and wait a while for a good job. Sorry I don't know anyone

Good luck Vlad. Have you reached out to the Land Rover Experience folks at the Quail Lodge down in Carmel? They may be able to get you in the right direction, and I suspect they at least have a good understanding of the Series Land Rover heritage you are looking to preserve. You never know, they may be in the same circles with some LR Series shops.

That's my shop assistant, Marty. The truck was imported from Cape Town and some days I think Marty wishes he was on the fender with a pride in the African plains. I'm convinced he's picking up scents as he loves to jump up into the engine bay and lay in pickup bed.

well, plz make sure he isn't in the engine bay when you start up on a cold morning, here I have to pound on the hood and such to ensure 'no one' is in the radiator or block trying to get warm.

Haha! This sounds like it should be standard equipment on old Series trucks: an electric “fender thumper” to scare off the critters living in your warm engine bay before you start it up!
