transfer case rear drive flange mud shield

I have to replace the worn transfer case rear drive flange - it is leaking. I am trying to remove the mud shield from the drive flange shaft - but it won't just pry off. Is it pressed on to the shaft; cannot imagine it is treaded on? How does one get it off? Mud shield part number is 236074. Suggestions appreciated.

An hour after I submitted the above post: Decided the mud shield was pressed on.....so I got an appropriate sized gear puller and after some effort it slipped off with no damage to the mud shield. Problem solved

I fail to understand why you wish to remove the mud shield, it is pressed on and does not inhibit replacing the oil seal. I don't think I am wrong here but if I am i'd like to know, I am not going to crawl under one of my rovers in the snow to find out nor dig out the books but I don't recall removing one. You do however need pay attention to centering those brake shoes when you're done.

JIMRR - I replaced the drive flange (scored and worn shaft - so oil was leaking around the seal) so I had to remove the mud shield to put on the new flange. Yes, could have used a speedysleeve but decided for a new flange.
