    Wavy Chip Brake Shoes

    Hi all,

I picked up a '79 Series III Land Rover a few years ago and am finally working to get it roadworthy. It was hard to push by hand, but I found the brake shoes and drums binding. With the drums off, the axles spin freely—so that’s a relief.

What’s odd is the wear pattern on the brake shoes—same on both sides (driver/passenger & both shoes per side). I’ve attached pics. Any idea what could’ve caused this?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I've seen it, I never gave it much thought but maybe expansion/contraction of the drum under a load? as the shoe is applied it tends to make the round drum oblong? check the wall thickness, the min. is cast into the drum.
