Steering box grease vs. oil, instead of replacing the O-ring

88" Series 2A. Oil is seeping out the side of the steering box where the rocker shaft goes through but I need to delay replacing that rocker O-ring seal. Until then I'd like to limit oil getting all over the chassis.

A local, reputable, old school Rover shop (30yrs +) recommend using grease in the steering box instead of typical EP90.

I've read online about a few options, most of which are self-leveling (more so when warm, less when cold) and would keep the friction parts lubed (unlike a thicker grease which would 'channel'):
    • LR One Shot (i think it's NLGI 00 or 0)
    • Penrite Steering Box Lube (NLGI 00)
    • John Deere Corn Head Grease (NLGI 0)
    • Lubriplate Synthetic Worm Gear Lube
Here's a video link showing Corn Head grease in a steering box: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zgW02emcgiA

The truck is never in freezing temps (+/-40deg F lowest at night), so no worries of lube being too cold.

Anyone have any positive/negative experiences using a "grease" like these, instead of traditional oil in their steering box?

    Thanks

YA, the steering box and a couple other places. find some track lube, high in paraffin, sort of like form oil or pump oil....(too thin if warm) ......... it'll still leak but at least you're not wearing metal away.
