I have a 73 SIII. The way mine is wired up is;
The hot lead (green wire) is connected to the voltage stabilized, source side not the stabiled side that goes to the fuel and water temp guages., This goes to one side of the guage. The other side of the guage goes to a second pressure transmitter for this guage (green/brown wire) on the oil filter. My filter housing has two ports for transmitters, one is for the idiot light while the other is for the guage. The transmitter is grounded through the engine.
The guage is mounted on the dash. The guage also has a light which is wired in parallel to the other instrument lights(Red/white wire).
Can't tell you if this is standard but it works.
