    Land Rover Green (Early)

Anyone know how to replicate the Land Rover green paint used on the early series one? The early green on series ones is a good deal darker/black than the later green used on series. I think I read somewhere that the original green was the same used on Spitfires in WWII. Any explanations or paint codes appreciated.

The earliest green (first 1500 vehicles) is often refered to as cockpit green. It is LIGHTER than bronze green which was used on later land rovers.

The other problem with BRG, is that everyone had their own version (triumph, MG, Austin, etc, etc, etc,). If you just go to the paint shop, and ask for BRG, you never know what you'll get.

According to the brochures for 1954 and 1957 the colors were simply:

                Green, Blue, Grey and Beige.

The colors have names though. They are noted in the parts catalogue.

To the best of my knowledge , the colour being reffered to is Deep Bronze Green.

I believe this has been copied before, but there is a colour chart attached.

If I recall; the designation "deep bronze green" appeared on charts like the ones you posted where different shades were listed. Kind of like how there was no series one until the series two came out. Only one shade was used on rovers AFAIK. Most of the series colors aren't listed on that chart (no burnt grey, hiway (sic) yellow, etc)

After conferring with a good buddy back near LR HQ in Solihull, he says (maybe tonque in cheek) that the colour of Deep Bronze Green was chosen as an alternative name to British Racing Green, due to the Rover Company (and Land Rover particularly) did not want to be associated with the racing scene.

Imagine :- Land Rover Racing Green, not how they were looking to promote the products to the farmers or export customers.

                              Just my 2p
