    tire info for lightweight

Have a late 1970's lightweight with 225-75-16 tires mounted on 5.00 x 16 original wheels. I run the vehicle on the beach, so would like to run slightly larger tires, understand that I can mount 235-85-16 on the original wheels. Are there any larger steel wheels , that will fit a lightweight, so that I could possibly run maybe, 245 or 255-75-16 tires.

I'm running 33" tires on mine with no problems. When the tires were new, there was a bit of rubbing on the rear wheel wells on extreme articulation but otherwise no problems.

As for width, I can't be sure if I'd be steering you in the right direction. My wheels are after market 5 spokes and have a different offset than regular series wheel.

    Cheers!

On my Air Portable, I run the Discovery I steel wheels, 7 x 16, with 285 -16 tyres and now worries so far.

So if I can find some LR discovery steel wheels, they will fit my air portable. Are Discovery steel wheels the only model that will fit an air portable ? And do you run a 75 series tire or an 80 series tire?
Thanks for any help. Bob Bates

Thank you Les, for the good information. Found 4 disco I steel rims, mounted 4 Cooper discoverer H/T 's 265/75/16. They look great, the tread is great for beach sand, the air portable has slightly more ground clearance, the ride seems a little smoother, and did I say they look great. Thanks
I love reading this forum, lots of good information.
