The other Hella thread reminded me that I have a free pair of Hella 500's still in the box available to me. Is anyone running these? Pictures? Thanks!

Is Anyone Running Hella 500's?

I've used Hella 500s on many Audi quattro's and had them on my Defender 90 in the amber fog lamps. I pretty much used this light for starters into the realm of rallye lights. The Hella 500s are made in Mexico, but are still really nice and well built. Just be careful on the less than stellar switches and 15A relay. Upgrade both. Great light for the price - especially if you get them for free! Use good relays, solid wiring, lots of heat shrink, dielectric grease and a good switch. One good part of the Hella 500, 1000 (Black Magic's) and Rallye 3000's are the bodies are made of plastic - no corrosion. However, in my experience, on the downside they also can crack and tend to vibrate more than a metal body light. Good choice.

I had Hella 500 for years when i had a Landcruiser. Drove all over the BC backcountry with them at night. Never a problem and i though the light was great. Yes the 3000 and 4000 are better without a doubt. but for the price (free) you cannot go wrong. Even new they are a great deal.
I would change the switch and put a 30 amp relay in though (like suggested)Comment
