That's a great story! It's probably a tragic end for the vehicles but does anyone know what ever happened to them?

          The book was great:

You can also get the book from Tim Slessor's web site:

'First Overland' is the name given to the 1955 Oxford & Cambridge Far Eastern Expedition (London to Singapore in 2 Land-Rovers). The book by Tim Slessor has been a favourite for 50 years, but the film made by Antony Barrington-Brown ('BB') for the BBC has rarely been seen. It is now available on DVD, with commentary by the Expedition members.

The video from that site does have the original footage, but has modern voice overs that don't really narrate the journey as the video rolls. It is quite interesting but is not exactly a documentary of the journey itself. It is almost more like modern interviews with old footage rolling in the background.

And then there's this web site:

Not sure but it looks like the web site is run by different people than Tim.

Good find. Had a disco till I took a trip and listened to the audio book off itunes, it made the 16 hour trip alot faster... then I read Tony Park's story in LRO and it sealed the deal, had to have a series and it's been fun ever since.

A Land Rover would never turn up to collect an Oscar. It'd be far too busy doing something important, somewhere, for someone."

In the book (or was it the Teeafit movie ) there is mention about how they were stopped on some border because booze was not allowed.

I think they started drinking straight from the cans to the bewilderment of the guard officials. They soon figured it out and let the boys pass.
