    Shifting fork seals

My Ser III is leaking oil from the three shifting sliders on the main gearbox. I have replaced the seals a few times with genuine items, but the leaks start back up after a few weeks. I have ensured that the vent holes are clear. I am now considering using standard orings inplace of the original type seal. Has anyone out there had success with standard orings? If so what sizes did you use (dash number).

cut a piece of 5/8" heater hose, slit it, grease it and slide it in.

I've never had those seals leak ever. If that is your only source of leaks, you have a unique transmission, which requires immediate investigation.

Are you filling it with the fill plug on the side, or some other way?

What Kevin said. They'll be a little tight at first but after a few weeks of shifting they'll free up. And no more leaks. You may want to double up on the retainer if you have an extra. It's pretty weak.

x3 on the heater hose, works like a charm.

Are Series IIA and III different on these seals?

Yes, you'll have to pull the floor and center tunnel but not the seats.

I probably dont need to ask-

Are you putting them in the right way? They are tapered and should be installed in a certain direction.
