Because it is slow today I'll ask this question.

It seems that the NADA 6 cyl trucks came with a spiffy fake leather pattern vinyl covering on the instrument panels and windscreen trim piece. Mine is actually still in good condition other than a couple of corners. Does anyone know where to get stuff to match the original?

Beacuse I am lazy it would seem easier to recover the couple of pieces that are peeling rather than strip the whole lot for the conventional metal dash look.

It's not hardura? That stuff can be had from any British Car trim specialist.

I don't think so but could be wrong. It looks like sticky back vinyl aplied over the stock parts. The stuff on mine looks finer material than hardura but who knows if it is original. I'll take a wander around and see what hardura looks like on the roll.

I looked at the test review books and ads from the period I have collected and not one had any of the coverings you describe. It doesn't seem like anything the factory would do either.

Ive seen the stuff on lots of NADA 109 6 cyl trucks. I donno if it came on every one, but its very common on those trucks and definitly original. Personally if you like the look, I would use wrinkle coat paint as its easer to touch up and harder wearing. Unless you just "gotta have it"

The dash covering is a stock feature to the NADA trucks. I havent seen it on anything else. I also havent seen any way to reproduce the look.

My original is still in good shape, just peeling at the edges slightly.

That trim is specific to the NADA trucks. It's like a textured plastic skin. Another interesting thing is the dash panels/covers are galvanized steel instead of aluminum.

To match my dash panels, I used Hammerite paint to get a rough finish, then followed with black paint to get the color. Looks okay but not exact.

How cheap are you?

Sometimes you can try local fabric shops, and get close out deals on rolls of vinyl. You might get lucky and find one that has a pattern similar to what you're after.

You do have get past going into a fabric store though. You'll be the only guy in the place.

Hmmm, it doesn't sound half bad. At least the odds are better than going to the bars of a weekend. 'Course it would take some extensive image overhaul, a new wardrobe, a few weeks of trying to grow some nails back and letting the knuckle scars heal before I could get away with it. Just how metro***ual do I have to go?

I'm laughing so hard right now, I can barely type!

Its actually more fun to go in wearing greasy carhardt overalls that have'nt been "officially" washed in three weeks. I like to go just after I've done something like, say, overhaul an engine. The chicks dig the whole "tough guy, mechanic" thing. Or, you can do what I do, and make your wife go.

Forget the image overhaul. You are what you are. I've been pissing off my HOA for years. They think I'm nuts (okay, there's some merit to that thought.)

Seriously though, make sure you check for the closeouts on the excess. You can get some pretty good deals. I once made door panels, and rear trim for an old full size jeep cherokee for less than $40.
