4200rpm IIRC. Torque is way down there at about 1800 or so.

IIRC = if I remember correctly = I'm using my rather fallible memory because I'm a lazy bugger who couldn't stagger 30ft out to the garage to get the books.

Land Rover changed their spec sometimes in the 1960's. The early spec was 4200 RPM and the later spec is 4000 RPM (7:1 vs 8:1 ???). Max torque for a 2.25L petrol is given at 2000 RPM. The 2.25L diesel & the 2.6L six were rated max torque at 1800 RPM. The 2.25L petrol prefers to cruise in the 3000 to 3300 RPM range and because of the steep torque curve you normally would like to downshift between around 2400 to 2000 RPM. The engine will run smoothly down to about 800 RPM but there is no power to speak of below about 1800 RPM
