    What type of grease?

I was changing all the fluids in my new (to me) '72 88 last night. When I stuck my finger in the fill plug of the swivel ball I found red grease. Is this the LR "one shot" I was reading about? I was planning on using 90 wt but if this the appropriate grease then I'lll continue with it. How full of grease should the area be?

If I wanted to, how would I flush it out of there, or could I combine 90 wt with it?

    thanks
    Bob

BTW, my cheeks are hurting from grinning over my 88!

    LR one-shot isn't red, it's a dark gray w/ a greenish tint to it........

That sounds like Shell's grease- IIRC it is red.

Take her for a spin and drain the swivels. FIll with 90 and check for leaks. Sometimes grease is used to spare the expense of repairing swivel leaks.

I am using one shot till the remaining parts come in for a swivel rebuild (s). I don't drive the 66 all that much though.

Great, another excuse to drive her!!!

I would prefer 90wt all around.
          Thanks

well you can either take it all apart and remove the grease or fill it with 90 wt and run it for a while then drain it and repeat. Before that one shot grease arrived upon the scen it wasn't uncommon for people to make a slurry of Grease and 90wt for their swivel housings.

Actually, I'd wondered about that, what would be the negative to using the one-shot, and keeping 90wt in it both.....

Because you wouldn't have anywhere for the LUCAS hub oil to go?

Lucas "EP" grease is red. I put it in my swivel balls, steering box and steering relay. The swivels and steering box both leaked, now no more leaks! If you get water in the swivels with grease installed it cannot be drained like 90W oil. FYI, Landcruisers call for grease in the swivels.
