    waterproofing and cleaning canvas top

I searched the forum and found a suitable waterproffing for my canvas top (Canvak), but the darn thing is dirty and a bit mildewy, as it is very humid and warm here in Charleston, SC. I didn't want to waterproof all of the dirt and stains in and waas wondering if anyone has had experience with this and could recommend a good way to clean the top? I was thinking a little bit of detergent with a spot of bleach for the mildew. I'm open to any and all suggestions.Thanks.
    Regards,
    Paul

Take it to the local cleaners. Most have industrial sized washing machines that the top will fit in. They can also spot treat the stains and mildew. The neighborhood cleaners got mine done for about a 20 spot. That alone was worth not having to try to wash it myself!

End result was I just had to put the new clean top on the truck and treat the now clean surface with Canvak.

Did they dry it, or would that shrink it too much?

They did. Mine was an RN canvas top from the PO. It had already been on the truck for some time and had shrunk as much as it was going to. I Noticed no additional shrinkage post cleaners.

I am sure that if you speak with the cleaners that they would let you pick up the wet top to air dry yourself if you wanted to.
