oil bath air cleaner break down

    Hello-

    1965 IIA petrol stock.

I took the nut off of the top of the oil bath air cleaner housing- but nothing comes apart. Am I not trying hard enough?

Mine is very dirty around the intake fins and I want to degrease it well.

Already cleaned the bottom and the bottom wire mesh.

    Thanks-
    Todd

Mine is a 1959 build but my bath has latches about 4-5 inches above the bottom. I am guessing yours doesn't?

Thanks for the response. I am sure mine is just like yours. I have broken min apart like you described. There is a nut on the very top that comes off a threaded rod. I took that nut off- but nothing comes apart. taht is my questions. What comes apart after that nut comes off.

      Thanks-

You're nearly there. It's probably just stuck fast with congealed oil and dirt, or it's rusted.

Use some PB Blaster or other penetrating solvent and it should break free.

Does the very top come off? The part that takes in the air?

          Thanks-

I don't believe it does, and if you pull the bottom off you can pull 2 packs of wire screen out and clean those off.

The very top part will come off but is a tight fit. Go easy on it and be patient or you will distort it.

Thanks- I got the top off. I used a blunt screwdriver and a tap with a hammer and it came right off. You can see the grime I was after.

Valves adjusted, valve cover cleaned, oil drained, new filter, new plugs, cleaned the fuel bowl, cleaned the breather cap, oil bath air filter to be cleaned tomorrow.

                Thanks to all.
