    Backup Lights

I'm considering installing a backup light using a Hella work light. I'll only be using it when I absolutely need it and won't use it in parking lots etc.. I've looked at the RN kit and it seems nice but expensive. I'll buy the RN bracket that they sell because it makes sense not to drill any new holes in my tub but am looking at a rubber housing 43/4" Hella lamp instead of the rectangular one. I have a switch and relay and can make my own harness so I don't need to purchase the complete kit. What do you folks recommend for lights? FWIW I have a soft top so mounting the light high on the rear of the roof isn't an option. As always thanks,

I used the RN mounting bracket to fit a cheap generic halogen rectangular fog lamp above the license lamp. I still needed to drill an extra hole for the wires....

My SIII already had backup lamps, so the fog was wired into the circuit using an 'on - off - on" switch with the power out to the fog lamp on the middle post. The other posts are incoming power from the backup lamp switch and incoming power hot all the time off of the 'brown' wire circuit. In one position the fog lamp comes on with the backup lamps, it is off in the middle, and is on in the other position.

This is a LED back up light from NAPA. They're not cheap but fit in the pto hole and won't stick out of your truck getting ripped off by brush, etc. They draw very little so you can run them through power through the switch without having to worry about a relay. You can also leave the truck in reverse at camp and use it as a camp light. They can burn all night without killing the battery or getting hot.

On my SIII, my rear tub was corroded out so badly that I replaced it with a SIIa tub. The rear panels on the SIIa tub were a bit rough, though, so I took sheets of aluminum and covered the back of the tub-sides. But, I didn't think the original SIII lights were very good to begin with, so.....

I took a Hella Picador, drilled a hole through the body, inserted the stud, bolted it in place... then drilled a small hole, put a sealing wire-grommet into the hole, then pushed the wires through to the inside of the tub. My SIII already has the switch on the shifter when put into reverse, so I wired it up to that switch.

I can now SEE to back up. Much better than the factory lights ever were.

Whats the part # for the reverse light bracket you're using to mount above license plate? I have a Hella work light and have been trying to decide where to mount it as well..

          Thanks

              Leslie-
Kind of off topic, but aren't the drain slots in the rubber bodies of the stop/tail lights supposed to be at the bottom?

That they are.... one of the things that had to be corrected (I had a lot of starts that ended up being redone along the way, lol.... )

I get mine @ NAPA and they work great, I get 2 and put them on either side of the tub. They are very bright and they are cheap... you should look them.
