    Adjusting steering stops

I just got my Federal Couriga Mud Terrains put on (235-85-16, they ride so much better than my 16 year old bias-ply tires), look very good, pictures later if anyone would like to see them, anyhow I have some inside rubbing at full lock. I serched and it seems it can be easily fixed by adjusting the steering stops, unfortunatly I am an idiot and don't even know where to begin. I checked my green bible (1964 version) and didn't see any mention of them. Can someone tell me what to look for and how to so this?

BTW, I'm sooo loving this truck, and learning so much as well, it's everything I hoped it to be!

And thanks for all the help here guys!

Your steering stop consists of two parts on each side of the axle. The first part is a small tab that is attached to the rear most (3 o'clock position looking into the wheel arch) bolt holding the chrome swivel onto the axle tube. The other componnent is the matching screw on the swivel seal retainer on the back side of the hub. The screw should have a nut under it's head to act as a jam nut. Adjustment is simply winding the screw in and out. You need to do both sides.

I generally just jack up the front axle so that both tires are off the ground and turn it left, adjust the stop, then right and adjust that stop. The stops are in the Green book, look in the wheels and tires section, or the steering section. It's there, I remember seeing it.

Well, I do not have steering stops...actually I have one tab, the bolts are not adjusters and other tab missing. I looked here but didn't see any mention of them...am I missing something!

There have been occasion where folks overhaul the swivel housing and neglect to put the steering stop on, maybe just an oversight or did not realise what their purpose was in the great scheme of things.....

Make 'em. A piece of 1/4" steel strip, a means of cutting it to length, bench vice, hammer and a 3/8" drill. If you've got one then just copy the bend angle and length. Making stuff for your truck is way more satisfying than buying it.
