Does anyone know what the purpose of the strip of alumimum circled in red is for? About half of the liftgates I've seen have the strip. Maybe its for water deflection? Does the strip (or lack of) correlate to an early (IIA) vs later (III) version?

Keeps rain from dripping on the back of your neck when it is open and your shifting stuff around? If so, nice touch.
