Pioneer Tools Kit on Tailgate question

I am finally installing the shovel mount on the tailgate on my 109 but I am having issues with shovel clearance with the shovel blade bracket. The bracket I have doesn't seem "deep" enough for the blade and the required angle. Is this normal? Are spacer used, as in the pick handle mounts? I have tried two different shovels thinking it was the angle between the handle and shoulder/blade but it wasn't the shovel(s).
Anyone else have a similar issue?
    Thanks

What shovel are you using? It is my understanding that most shovels, even the one currently available from RN, will not fit the bracket correctly. The angle between the metal shovel blade and the wood handle is too big.

      Hello there,

There are 2 different shovel head brackets available, pse shoot a picture over of the shovel head and bracket, so we can see the type of each that you have.

        shovel head bracket

        Yes,
I would like to know about the shovel head bracket as well Les. I bought the expedition shovel from RN and want to mount it inside my bed and want to know what you have available.

        thanks,
        Jeff

          Les,
Here are the images of the one of the shovels and the bracket.

I picked up a British Army "T" handle shovel from a surplus store. Length was a match but I still had to add a spacer behind the bracket closest to the shovel head. It was ~1" thick.
            This was for a Lightweight.

              Ktom,
I tried two different shovels, one surplus the other from RN; both have the same issue. I was thinking the same thing of adding a spacer but wanted more input before putting more holes in the tailgate.

I didn't add any holes. My brackets were already off for straightening and painting so I just added a spacer behind one of the brackets and used the same holes.
