How much can it hold? My gauge is less than accurate as it's usually pegged at full until it starts to flop around wildly. That's usually when I stop for gas, which ends up being about 6-7 gal.

12 gal. is right (for an 88" anyway). When my gauge reads way down on the lower part of 'E' I can put in 10.5 gal.

you probably have a bad fuel sender unit on your tank if it is pegged then flops wildly. Over the years the wire (wound variable resistor) in the sender unit wears out and gives wildly inconsistant output causing your gague to spaz out like it does.-Cosmo-
