I'm sure I can come up with plenty of excuses as to why I "didn't have time" to just get out and start my '82 Series III 88" w/the 2.8L Daihatsu diesel conversion in the last month (or more? When was the last time I started it?!), but it's just not worth it. I've let it sit too long and now it won't start. Doh!
I know most of you aren't going to be able to help with this particular diesel engine, but what's the general procedure for troubleshooting this? This is my first diesel, so I apologize in advance for being completely ignorant.
Could the diesel in my tank or lines have soured? Clogged injectors or something? Also, the last time I did start it I noticed that the "cold start" light didn't come on when I held down the button, but it did start fine. I had the dash/instrument panel out looking at how hard it would be to replace my speedometer cable prior to noticing the issue, so could I have knocked something and now my glow plugs aren't warming it up. I didn't think it'd start without the glow plugs though (esp. since I was running it about once a week).
I took my dash apart and peeked at the connections for the cold start button and lamp, but didn't see anything glaringly obvious. I'll borrow a multimeter and double check things this week, but any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
