I need to replace my battery on my 66 Series 2 are there any specific types or name brands to buy. I would like to match it to the original as much as possible..

Just researched & bought a new battery myself. I ended up with a NAPA Select 84 and I went with a Group 27. This is the largest battery that will fit in the battery tray, but some say that the original battery was a smaller Group 24.

Just get the largest battery that will fit into the battery tray and make sure the posts are on the correct side. The more cranking amps the better. I once had a deep cycle marine battery that I thought would never die but alas as with all things. I'm partial to Interstate batteries but not really for any particular reason.

I Just put in a red topped Optima, that had been sitting in the garage for the last year and a half. Put it on the trickle charger for a day, and it has run the lights n accessories while I'm trying to sort out my rats nest of wiring.

I've been interested in the red topped Optima, what size did you go with?

Correct on both counts, but I too would use a group 27, and I also like Interstate

Im not sure what size Red Top it is...it came out of my old Jeep CJ5-and before that it was in a buddy's Wrangler.. and that was before letting it sit for a year and a half. 2 days on a trickel charger, and it started my Landie right up.I would go with one with 800CCA...
