Is the spare tire locking post on your bonnet pie plate welded in place or bolted from below? Mine was stripped of all hardware etc (PO used the rear door). I'm switching it back but will need to add the post and was planning on welding it in place. Thanks, Jack.1970 88 IIAComment

It saddens me everytime I pass this lot. He also has a yellow series I 86" (?) not visible, a RRC growing weeds, and a rolling chassis in good shape which is also growing weeds. These appear to be trucks that functioned a short while ago (the blue 88 rebuilt by a board member) but have fallen to neglect.

If that is indeed mine with the rear door nearly falling off, I think I'm going to have a coronary. I spent the entire summer of 2002 restoring that with a NOS frame, new wiring, the whole gamut.
(Just a backstory: I sold it in '04 because I needed the money for my Masters program. I went back there in '08 to try and buy it back, but the guy never answered his phone/came to the door.)
Holy s%^&. If this is indeed true, I'm absolutely furious.Comment

Upon closer inspection, that is mine. On the bottom of the passenger door, there's a strip of metal that the previous (original) owner had riveted on because (shockingly!) the bottom had rusted. There's also a red bumper sticker on the rear crossmember from when I went white-water rafting in Maine back in '03.
I can't begin to say how pissed I am. Man, I spent just about every day restoring this IIa, from teardown to back up, over four months. It was such a source of pride when I drove it (in a rainstorm) down to the British Cars by the Sea in Waterford back in either '03 or '04. And this is its fate? I did not restore this to be shoved in the corner of a field. Had I known this back then, I would have kept it and suffered through college loans.
I realize this thread is for saving Rovers, but this one is personal. If I wasn't out of a full-time job, I'd be there tomorrow with an open checkbook. Or a trailer in the cover of darkness.Comment

JackIIa,
He does have a number of Rovers, but I don't think any of them are in restorable condition. I traded correspondences with him at first to see how things were going, but about six months afterward he just stopped responding. He lives in the same town in which I was born and raised, so I pass by it when I visit my parents.Comment
