Bulkhead Repairs in New England

One thing led to another and I decided to strip everything down and have the bulkhead repaired. I don't have it completely out yet. Wings are off, radiator, clutch, master, steering box, wiper motor. Everything is pretty solid except for the foot wells and door posts. I'd like to have it chemically stripped, repaired, and galvanized. Does anyone have the capability or know of a shop that can do it and an estimate for that kind of work. I'd like to drop it off and pick it up to avoid shipping. Ike (pangolin 4x4) does an excellent job but not sure if I want to crate and ship.

Did you start with an oil change?

I thought I had read a post once that said RN offered bulkhead repair, but it wouldn't be the last time I was wrong. Then again there's the getting it there part.

You can try Matt Browne at Overland Engineering in Eliot, ME or send a PM to solihull109 who posts on this forum. The difficult part will be finding a galvanizer willing to do the job or at least that is the problem I'm running into. There is a galvanizer in Halifax NS who is willing to do Land Rover parts but you would have to ship it or go on one heck of a road trip. Have you considered bringing one in from England? There are 2 companies producing galvanized bulkheads. One is Ashtree http://www.ashtreelandrover.com/Lyn_Profile.html and the other is Pegasus Parts http://www.pegasusparts.co.uk/. They are not inexpensive by any means but I'll bet they are close to what you are talking about for a repair cost.

Its been a while since I've been to the ECR website, but they used to do bulkhead restorations. Probably cost the same as a new one imported from the UK though...

I'm not even sure they are still doing these. I contacted them about working on a brake conversion for a series IIA, and they informed me they were no longer working on anything other than Defenders. I know others have ECR do work on their series rigs, I guess it is either a recent change in direction for them, or it is all who you know. Jeff Aronson I understand uses them, but I can't seem to get them to work on mine. I also do not believe they galvanized their bulkheads. they epoxy diped them for cost reasons

Looking at their pics, their work isn't that great and certainly not worth having it shipped across the pond.

Thanks Jim!, There is a galvanize company in Mass. that does whatever you bring to them. Have sent many frames to them, and they did a fine job. If you have any questions, you can shoot me a P.M.

I'm about 4-5 months out on bulkheads right now.....especially if it is getting galvanised. Also expect it to cost as much as bringing one in from UK (2k).

someone on this site offered to do mine, and now I can't find the PM I saved from him. He had pictures of another one he had just completed, and it was quality work. This person was in Maine...
