Support for Fender Wings

Anyone have a good idea or experience with strengthening top fender wings whithout having to use that diamond plate stuff. I have the diamond plate wings on my current series but getting another one and do not want to use this stuff. I do not like the way the diamond plate looks but need the support. Thank you.

I believe that the many of the military Rovers had strengthened wings. Don't know if a bracket holding up a section would be enough or if you want protection of the whole area. But a bracket from underneath would at least hold up the wing and allow you to step/sit on it.
