Head Bolts

I have about 1,000 miles on my new ARC 2.5L engine (in my 71' SIIA) I'm going to adjust my tappets, should I retorque the head bolts?

Only if you have the copper head gasket. The fibre head gasket only need to be retorqued after intitial fit and warm up run (10-20 mins of driving).

I'm sure more experianced ones will answer but I don't see any harm in it. Especially on a 1,000 mile motor. Just takes about 10 minutes including removing spark plugs to get to the side ones.

Did the new engine come with a manual? My Turner reman engine was very specific to run the engine until completely up to temperature, then shut it down and re-torque the head bolts with the engine still warm.
May be obvious, but make sure to adjust the valves after re-torqueing the head bolts.

No, didn't have a manual, bought it new from a guy who bought it but didn't install it. The motor was brand new. Thanks to all.

I checked the factory manual last night as well - under the head gasket replacement section. After installation, they say to warm up the engine to normal operating condition then re-torque the head bolts when still warm. This initial re-torque applies to both the copper and fiber type head gaskets.

Okay, so I didn't have a manual, and I didn't retorque the head bolts per your manual, I have approximately 1000 miles on the motor now; my question is, should I retorque them now?

I say Yes, but follow the factory manual procedure (with the engine warm, factory torque spec., and follow the correct torque sequence).

I don't have the manual, I emailed Roger at ACR for more info. I hate to be a pest, can you give me the "reader's digest" version of the procedure and the torque spec/setting from your manual?

Here is a scan of the page in the Green Bible that shows the torque specs and the sequence that it should be done in. Hope it works, I'm almost as bad on computers as I am under my truck. It's step 28.
