Ok-I'm a little bored and it's quiet at work. On my list of projects for my IIa is adding a reverse light and maybe finding a way to combine that with a rear work light/camp light. Any of you done this? Did you run into any problems?

there are those here who have added the switch to the shift linkage but i was thinking of a on off button mounted under the low oil pressure warning lamp that i could push with an extended index finger as i slipped it in and out of reverse then if needed i could also use it as a rear work light without having to shift'64 Series IIA 88 Canvas Tilt

That's a good idea and probably a lot easier to do. You would also have the option of not using it if you didn't need it.64 IIa 88

I will be adding (parts in hand) a brake light switch to the hole on the shift lever bracket on the bell housing and a three pole switch (headlamp/heater switch) to the dash. If I get my wiring right =) in the first position the reverse light will energize automatically when shifted into reverse. In the second position the reverse light (and if I add one, work light) will energize manually. In the off position no worky.1982 SIII 109 RHD petrol project.Comment

How I have it set up in my rover is I have a switch no my dash that has a constant power supply and then the switch on my shifter which only gets power when the ignition is on. This goes through a relay switch so when I turn the switch on it closes the circuit so I don't back run power through my ignition circuit. It a really easy installation once you have it figured out. Hope this makes scene..
I have a sketch somewhere, I'll scan it sometime and put it up sometime.
It really handy to to have the extra light.

Here's a rough diagram how I have my reverse light hooked up so I can use it as a work light as well. I have a switch on my dash so I can use the light whenever I want. It's really handy for camping.
The diagram I made isn't my best work...1951 I 80" - Summer driver

switched light
I used a switch on the dash for my worklight and use it when needed as a backup light. I also have an idiot light in blue on the dash for when I have it on so I don't forget to turn it off when driving.Comment
