2.5L Engine - what years was it made?

    Morning folks,
Occurred to me last night that I'm frequently taking a guess as to the heritage of my 2.5L engine.

Can anyone fill me in on the history? When were they made and for which trucks? I thought the Stage 1 had a V8, so were they strictly for later Series III?

    Thanks

I believe the 2.5 engine was introduced for the 1985 model year then discontinued when the 200tdi was introduced for the 1990 model year.

So think in terms of early Ninety and One Tens.

Nick, what is your engine number?

Petrol 2.5's showed up much later than diesel 2.5's.

the 2.25 petrol was used at least into 85. 2.5 diesel began with the 84 90's.

that is just for starters. it is more complicated than that. lots of misinformation out there regarding the early 90's and 110's, including the common misconception that early 4 cylinder 90's shipped with a 1.6 transfer case. They did not, it was only the 110's that did.

many think they have a 2.5 when they really have a 5 bearing 2.25.

A Land Rover would never turn up to collect an Oscar. It'd be far too busy doing something important, somewhere, for someone."
