Blue Rover: Paint or Don't Paint...

I'm tempted to plop this body right onto the new chassis. Really can't decide if I want to paint it back to old marine blue or keep it as is. It's borderline as it is in my opinion - the back door for example is pretty much all worn through, and the galvanized obviously needs to be redone. All in all I think this should be relatively easy....right?

Looking back at how mine looked, before the paint job, makes me miss it.

While a good patina is priceless, that breakfast and bulkhead could be structurally questionable and would look odd once repaired against the panels.

breakfast and bulkhead are going way of dodo bird and being replaced by new 'project' bulkhead and breakfast which are in much better shape, though still will require footwells. they'll then have to be painted blue...

IMHO I'd paint all the panels in fresh blue. Patina is fine but it seems to me that if you go thru all the effort of a restoration then your Rover should look new. But keep in mind that I drive a 3 color Rover that will never be less than 2 colors at best.

I love the honest patina but patina mixed with newly painted bulkhead etc. will look like crap.

just have to collect a few more rovers with patina. Or invite Martha Stewart over to distress you new paint.

                  I say paint it.

There's already plenty of patina in the series world.

If you like the patina look, why not just paint it fresh with single stage paint, and then leave it outside, without waxing it, in the sun. You should have oxidized, "patina" in no time, and it will all match!

that's a good call - think I can get that in a marine blue? I'm not too familiar with single stage paints I guess (or painting in general).

has anyone painted their Series an Arles Blue? (Defender)

I am very happy with the DuPont Centari single stage paint cans from:

I used pastel green on the roof sides, sills, and the interior. It's faded nicely since the attached pic (First day I painted it), perfect match now.

                        Marine Blue is 38503

                        Good Luck!

that is a great find for paint as Rovers North no longer carries touch up paint. What kind of coverage did you get with the paint?
Sorry for jumping on this thread.

I vote don't paint it. Here are some photos of my old 88 w/ faded marine blue paint, restored/repainted bulkhead & breakfast and galvy frame. Should give you a pretty good idea of how yours would look.

That's not really too bad, Mogly. Doesn't stand out nearly as much as I thought it would.
