Searching for my parents 2a last seen in Pa.

Needle in a haystack I know....My Land Rover addiction all began back in the early 1960's. My parents bought a new 88 basic hard top complete with a meyers plow. We lived outside of Valley Forge Pa in Phoenixville. It was Marine blue and had a rear tailgate/liftlid set up. I recall that it had a kodiak Mark 3 heater which dates the truck to the early 60's. If our memories recall correctly it was a 62 or 63. My parents sold it to someone who lost their rover in a garage fire back in the late 1970's. It stayed in Pa at that point. Ive tried to find the vin number but have had no luck.
I imprinted on that truck and have been into rovers ever since. Hopefully some of you from Pa have seen or come across a marine blue 88 with fixed windows/rear lift lid/plow and lights fitted to the roof. It once had Valley Forge Army hospital DOD decal on it as well as my hippy brothers flower power stickers stuck to it at one point.
If any one has seen such a truck/knows of a similar truck please let me know.
    Id like to find it...J

I posted your request on the Philadelphia area ROVERS board, since your truck would have been in the area. No replies yet....

Sounds like mine sans the plow, heater and roof lights. I have no idea where mine came from but the sun shield roof and lack of major rust makes me think it is from the south. I also don't know what color it was originally but it's marine blue/lime stone white now and has the tail gate/fixed windows.

Matt, Yes yours does look similar to our truck. Our top was plain with fixed windows- no tropical skin. I tink the plain tops with sun sheets were on later ser 3. The tops are easy enough to swap though. Without evidence of a plow, kodiak, etc...I am doubtful that yours is "ours" although it does look quite similar.
If you learn any more history on your truck please let me know. If you would be comfortable sharing its vin number I can do a trace to see where it came into the states/etc.
I do have a lead on the remains of a blue early 2/2a hardtop...Someone started a rebuild but quit- its without a drive train...and is partially stripped...but sounds pretty close...and its in Pa!! and actually pretty close to me. I am planning on a road trip shortly.
You have a nice looking rover. John

          Thanks John,

My serial # is 24411069E any information you can find would be great! As you can see mine has had a lot of work to it, which was done by a prior owner that I can't get to return a letter or send an e-mail. I'd love to know it's history and I have a feeling it has elements of several Rovers.

I've heard some different version on the sun shields. One version has it that a military order was canceled (I've heard both Australia and South Africa) so LR put the shields on NAS trucks, the other version is that Florida Power & Light had a fleet of old Rovers they used for rural and everglades areas and that these all had the sun shield. It's the only one I've seen in my limited experiance,it does seem to help but it also adds to the noise.

Good luck finding the old family Rover-that would be one cool restoration story!
