    Mercedes into a seriesIIA-109

I am interested in meeting others who have installed a 3L MB diesel into series wagen.I am also into running waste veggie oel in some of my other vehicles and want a waste oel Rover. The Rover pump will not tolerate this fuel thus my desire to convert to either a VW 6 cly.I.E. Volvo, which I do not have or a MB 5 cyl, that I do have..Anybody in this group on my wavelength ? Here is your guy. http://www.seriestrek.com/engine.html

He has done it and can sell you the adapter plate. It may not be enough power for a 109 for your use, watever that is, but he can fill you in on that.
    Good luck,
    Greg

I don't think you'd want the Volvo 6cyl-If you look into them you'll find they have a horrible reputation. IF you do thought there was a fellow in Mass who adapted the Volvo Tranny to the Series Rover T-case.

Why won't the series fuel pump tolerate WVO?

I'm on your wavelength. In fact I bought a 300d TD with the hopes of grafting that motor into a 109 and running waste oil. Unfortunatly the motor is shagged out (happened pretty quick after using mobil 1 (I'm such an idiot!)) and they have a reputation of being expensive to rebuild.

I've since been looking at cummings power plants. See this thread as I've found it really helpful.

        Cheers,
        Tim

You killed a 300TD by using Mobil 1?

I saw the info on one of the WVO sites, I'll see if I filed it any where. The most tolerant pumps as I recall were the Mercedes & VW's...they are in line "piston" pumps as I recall. We are running a VW now and it is doing fine.An older Rabbit 1.6.

Thanks for the link, I checked it out, he is running a 240 4 cyl non turbo. I need to do some serious measuring as the 5 cyl is longer and the exhaust and the turbo are on the right side of the engine, may run into problems with the front driveline.....HE has really built a nice unit....don

Jim is going to put one of the larger MB diesels in a 109 he is building. He could give you an idea what that would entail.

I'm not sure of it but the car's power output went down hill in dramatic fashion after using Mobil 1. (Lost compression on number 5 and the turbo seems dead until the revs are way up)

The car now has the clear distinction of being the slowest vehicle out of the hole that I have ever been in, including any series truck. Holding it floored (when not warmed up) will barely rev the engine, much less move the tank.

Can't be sure Mobil 1 was the cause but after the fact I heard all kinds of stories of similar stuff happening when adding synthetic to old diesels. This car also has 240,000 miles on it with a dubious owner history, so who knows if the oil had anything to do with it.

Call RN and ask for Art Patsorus (may be spelled wrong, sorry Art!)

He has a 109 with Merc power...

No problem Jim... You aren't the first and I'm sure you won't be the last to misspell my last name!

                        Thanks, Art.

I'm sure you can imagine the bastardization of my last name that has occurred over the years...

I don't know anything about engine swaps. I do know a little about Mercedes diesels. I have a 1982 240D. It has a four cylinder non-turbo diesel and about 67 hp. I also have a 1995 E300D. It has a 6 cylinder non-turbo diesel. It has 24 valves and about 134 hp. It is one sweet running engine. It is 30 inches long from the back of the head to the front of the belt pulley, and 35 inches long to the front of the radiator. I do not know how available they are. I think that they were non turbo in 1995 thru 1997. They went back to turbo sometime shortly after that.
