I used to have a euro 2.6. It went straight to the junk yard when I replaced it with a spark plug-free engine.

I am just not a Champion fan & was interested in seeing what others liked...I guess it was a stupid question as I got no interesting answers...Why does everyone dislike this engine?I spent most of my money on women & cars, the rest of it I just wasted.......Comment

I'd be willing to bet that there are more 2.5 diesel engines powering Rovers here in the USA than 2.6 petrols, and the 2.5 diesels were never even available in the USA!--Mark

I would bet that is true, and a conversion I would consider for my 2.6 when the time comes(most would argue it is overdue). I like the added power and combined with a high ratio transfer box get ok mileage and can go reasonable highway speeds... Finding parts is the biggest challenge, it is a bitch. I can tell you what plugs are in mine when I get my truck back from a rebuild._________________________________________

I didnt even know there was a 2.6 petrol - I've had a hard enough time finding parts for my 2.5l petrol, I cant imagine anything more obscureComment

good lord your engine looks pretty! I see you still have the emissions air injectors and pump on it. Wait, perhaps we have talked previously on another board...I believe so, you restored your to swiss specs right? If so hope you are feeling better!_________________________________________

Cutter,
Yes, Thanks,….. we’re doing much better. Getting the by-pass and blood flow back to the heart no doubt makes for a marked improvement, its been something to the effect of de-coaking and slapping in a fresh set of rings…
The air pump and injector rail is an early emissions system that effectively does little to improve emissions while adding an additional load on the motor. It’s no loss if ones not fitted on your 2.6.
I’d agree that parts for a rebuild can get costly and interesting to track down…..Though regular maintenance bits to keep the thing puttering along are available and not extravagant.
