    24v Relay for Lightweight?

    I'm looking for a 24v relay for my '73 Series III 24v LWT. Lucas No1 MKIII FV426648. The original got pounded when I dropped the engine back in (literally) after a rear main seal & clutch replacement.

    Its part of the 6-way light switch & the starter circuit so my daily driver is currently limited to daylight and destinations that feature a hill. Luckily I'm in Vermont rather than Kansas but I've still got a blister from overuse of the crank handle.

    Any views on replacements - will any 24v 30A relay work?

    I would guess that any 24v relay should work however no warranty should be implied with this post.

        I may have what you need. I've still got my old harness coiled up on the ground in my driveway. I'll check my relays out when I get home tonight and see if the part numbers match.

          Prices seem to range from £19.99 to £37.50. However I can see no reason for you not using a generic truck part as a replacement, say from Bosch or similar. Just any relay will not work. It needs to do the same thing.

          If you have the part and a wiring diagram, go along to a truck parts specialist. You'll be surprised at what you can use instead of expensive OEM parts.

              Disco2hse - I've got the military parts cat with wiring diags & scoured other wiring diags on the web but can't seem to find the relay on any of these diags. I'd love to use generic parts, but as you rightly point out, it needs to do the same thing!

                I don't have the wiring diagrams for that model, but I would be surprised if it were not there. Of course it will not be identified on the diagram except as a symbolic representation like this:



                That's why I suggested taking the original with the wiring diagram. On the original piece it should include information about ratings and you don't have to remember the number and size of spade terminals required. The position on the wiring diagram will show how many inputs and outputs there need to be where they come from/go to. A generic part may not look exactly the same.
