    New Generator

Hey Folks, OK, so I'm getting oh so close to driving my SerII for the first time in years. I just put a new generator on, and get the red light on constantly. It is not recharging the battery, so I measured voltage out at the generator leads and only get 1V. Is there something I need to do with the generator first. I thought I saw something once about a procedure that has to be done first but just can't find any info.

    Thanks for any help.

P.S. Sorry if some of my questions are too newbie, I am also reading as much as I can. The Rover is pretty far from where I live, so I like to arm myself with as much info as I can before I go down for the weekend and work on her.

Polarizing a Lucas generator will reastablish the current flow thus allowing the generator to produce electricity......

      Bob,

your problem is that YOU HAVE A GENERATOR! Dump that thing and go with an alternator man.

Thanks Alk-3, it's a bit rough around the edges, but Rovers are forgiving. It's been a blast, I bought it in high school, messed around a bit then put it in storage. Next thing you know it's 20 years later and the kids want to get it going, so we did. Perfect car for this kind of work. My dad taught my son how to weld on it. And I didn't have to stress out about it not being perfect. Actually within 10 min my son could weld better than me or my dad!
