Thanks for the validation - I've been struggling with this one!

Hard to give up a Rover that you have memories with (but I don't feel good about excess)

Came very close to getting rid of the old girl for an SC Porshe, this past summer. My '69 is the only Rover I have now, so I decided against it, since I would be giving up ALL of my Rover fun.

You sir, on the other hand, would still have a Rover! Get the Alfa and later on, get the remaining Series going, for the best of both worlds. One of the two following sentiments will certainly be stated by you in the future:

"Man, I shouldn't have gotten rid of that '64."

      Or,

"Man, I should have gotten that Alfa."

Both are unpleasant, so go for variety! Carpe Diem!

A friend of mine has a '69 Alfa like the one you pictured. Same color, same shape. Love it.

      Be daring!

Oh, also, don't you think having more than one Rover is excess?

        I appreciate that a lot!

My parents always lived with a 'no looking back and no regrets' mentality. I'm not quite as good at it as they were

And hey my blue Rover only needs to be bolted onto my galv chassis and I have another truck right?

I would suggest posting pics of both projects. Of course it might have to be, "Here is a pic of my Rover as I change the intake manifold on my Alfa so that I can add the fuel injection for increased low end torque"

Or even better, how your Rover has helped with your Alfa (more arguments for us not to get rid of Rovers even if we pick up another type of classic!).

I like it! Incidentally the Alfa has SPICA fuel injection (mechanical). That'll be an interesting new mechanical thing to learn...

I know appearances can be deceiving (as anyone buying a vehicle with an aluminium body can attest). But this looks great at first blush.

What is your plan? Maintaining it? Full strip down and rebuild? Undecided. I too would love to see a thread on this.

I think just maintaining and using

I'm really excited for the car - I have to admit. It's been awhile that I've had anything but a 4wd vehicle.....throwing a car into corners is not something that is part of my vocabulary anymore

Definitely. And with it lower to the ground than a rover, you'll feel like a speed demon! Saw the interview with TopGear on 60 Minutes the other night. Clarkson had one good point. "Speed is the only truly modern sensation". Enjoy it.

Groan... learn to hate may be more appropriate. Look for a Webber head and a pair of DCOEs. There are plenty out there and not a ton of $. That will really make her sing

really? I've read something along the lines of "SPICA was once not well understood due to Alfa using it in racing and keeping the tech somewhat under wraps, but recent knowledge developments have made it an easy system to maintain, increasing mileage without losing any driveability yadda yadda...

My dad had poor luck with an injected Spider, and the dealer wasn't much help. Spica fuel pumps have issues too. I successfully campaigned for a Weber head conversion, but to be truthful, I may have begun to believe the bad rap story I kept giving him. I was always a twin Weber fan, not just in Alfas, but my S1 Elan, and on the track, a Cooper 88 and Lotus 41C. The Cooper was originally Lucas slidevalve injection, which no one could make work well, So Webers won me for life. Clearly, 45DCOEs back then were made to a quality level the 34ICH isn't.

I guess I never wrapped this thread up. These pictures should be an indication of what happened. My cousin's husband ended up buying it instead of me, and we drove to Louisville to pick it up....he's still got a gray one if anyone wants one
