    Steve Mcqueen and a Rover

Was looking around the 'selvedge yard' site and came across this article about Steve McQueen. First is the link to just the photo and the second should be a link to the whole article on Selvedge

          Kewl link, thank you!

I went with my wife and daughter to a book sale this summer (not really thinking I'd find ANYTHING) and happened upon this little gem.

Steve McQueen: 40 Summers Ago. A Photographic record of Steve's participation in the International 6 Day Motorcycle Trials. With review.

It's easy to get lost. That's what I found myself thinking after reading Steve McQueen 40 Summers Ago... Hollywood Behind the Iron Curtain-by Rin Tanaka and Sean Kelly.

          Bought it for a $1

Fine printed and documented book from Japan. The historical photos are nice.

            McQueens Rover

I have seen other photos of this Swb rover with the top off and McQueen driving his kids around, I believe he also owned a 109 which the Studio bought him as part of his contract while filming (I believe the Great Escape). He told them he'd rather use the money allocated for a car and driver to purchase his own vehicle and drive it himself. Makes perfect sense to me!

No kidding! There's nothing politcally correct about him. Very cool.

Nowadays, he would be blackballed out of Hollywood for being photographed with a, OMG! , a cigarette??!!

And like the Marlborough man died of lung cancer at way too young an age. Personally I would have liked to see him in later movies had he lived long enough to make them. He may have been a short fella but he sure was lovely to watch in motion.

Steve McQueen, James Garner and Dick Smothers all got infected with the race car bug in the same era.

Hey, TAW you left out Paul Newman. I have to agree he was fun to watch and he made some very good movies.

Speaking of McQueen cars, here's my favorite. Got to see this one a few months back. Note the drool hanging from the corners of my mouth.

I must say that I would give up a Rover for that!

Of course I didn't say which one!!
