    thermostat housing question

    good morning folks,
well i finally got the pieces to change my thermostat over to the domed type with new housings and everything, almost. i guess the top of the housing is NLA so i crudely machined out the old one to fit.
    heres my question.
where in the assembely does the the o ring fall in?
only place i can figure is between the the lower housing and the thermostat. not sure.
i just want this beast to go smoothly up to winter romp.
    thanks alot.
    aaron

Little light on the background color but pretty sure it is a quick reference for you.

does the ring around the outside of the thermostat ? Does the top housing have a groove to allow the ring to sit?
I saw that diagram before and it didn't make sence
It says that it should go in between the top gasket and the stat .sorry its just not clear to me.

The upper termostat housing has a step for the o-ring to set in. The o-ring should be sized to just sit on top of the thermostat. I've usually stuck the o-ring to the step on the inside of the housing with a bit of silicone, but I don't think the early housings have the step.

          ok i figured it out
took the top round piece of the flat thermostat that was in there out
put it inside the top housing section
which created the lip i needed for the o ring
          went together perfectly.
          thanks everybody
          see you in two weeks
