gearbox reseal, use goo or just the gaskets?

I tried searching but came up with all sorts of answers, I have the transmission and T-case apart and im about to put it back together with all new gaskets. I have razor bladed the surfaces and got them very clean. My question is, should I use some sort of sealer along with the gaskets? The green bible says to smear regular grease on both sides of the gasket. Being 2011, I would think there may be a better option. Thoughts?

I have used permatex formula 2B along with the gaskets with great results!

I've always had good luck with Gasgacinch gasket sealer.
