have not done it to a rover. Have done it on multiple Saab road cars without race engines. The Saab flywheel weighs 20lbs stock and 5lbs removed from the outer diameter near the ring gear achieves a noticeable change in how the engine revs. The revs will build faster and fall faster. HP wise it probably doesnt change anything but it makes a noticeable difference in acceleration. So if you are trying to improve the performance of your rover engine and you are upgrading various intake and exhause components....taking some weight off the flywheel is great low cost way to improve the performance on the butt dyno.
it won't likely even improve your top speed...mostly a small but noticeable improvment in acceleration. Which when combined with all the other tweaky small gains people try to achieve on these engines without spending a ton could be worth while.Comment

I guess it really depends on how you drive your rover then. Given the 2.25's low output, low compression and being a 4 cylinder, I'd rather have the mass to help push through the messy stuff. I'll keep it in mind incase I want to drive it like a Saab though.Jason
