    Hardened valve seats

Did LR ever produce 2.25 heads with hardened valve seats or are they all made for leaded gas?

If so, is there any way to tell? Will the numbers on the head verify it?

    hardened seats

My cousin had a 1960 series 1. He bought it new and sold 5 yrs ago for $10,000. He drove every day for all those years. He never had any problem using unleaded fuel.

Gunny- I remember reading that they did. Sometime in the 70's the brits required unleaded fuel, at which time land rover built them for unleaded. For some reason I want to say 76 and later, but that may be wrong.

I don't think they ever did. You can buy stellite faced valve seats and have them installed by most good auto-machine shops, but I'm not sure it's worth the expense, unless this crap gas gets worse.

Stellite exhaust valves and hardened propane exhaust seats inserted at the engine machinist. The intakes stay the same. Once done, you never have to touch valves again. except the odd adjustment.

The Brits transitioned to unleaded way after we did, they might even still have leaded available.

I've never seen a 2.25p head that had original hardened valve seats, 2.5p heads may have.
