Waiting for more favorable weather, I work around the edges, on things that can be done indoors on the long neglected 64 2a. The transmission brake linkages were frozen and so I removed and brought the assembly in for a cleaning. It is a small job and ready for reassembly and storage for later refitting. Clearly the hand brake handle assembly was painted, but there is a handbrake relay assembly lying between the handle and the brake itself. It includes a steel bracket that bolts to the frame and a small cast piece that connects linkage directly to the brake drum expander. These pieces look as if they never were painted. If so why not? I would think that would offer some corrosion protection( though the pieces have held up well). Any down side to painting them for future protection? Since multiple small items will get painted....
I noticed a recent post that postulated an unpainted transmission brake drum would dissipate heat mor eefficiently- though thatnraises a related question: how often is the e brake used such that heat dissipation would be a concern?
