    Galvanized Wheels?

Hello, I am wondering if anyone has galvanized 15 inch (or 16 in) standard Series Land Rover wheels? I have seen them once or twice but can not remember where? Someone (I think) told me that tires may have a difficult time forming a good seal? Any information and/or links/photos would be greatly appreciated. I am thinking about this as I launch a boat several times a week in saltwater during the summer months. Thank you for your help.

    Very best,

I've seen many trailers with galvanized wheels. So it can be done...Well I think. Others will answer.

I met a guy from Canada in San Diego once who galvanized his wheels. He also a a nice 'drop down' tray that he added to his tailgate. That way he could load up on firewood locally just before he got to his campsite.

I think he occasionally frequents this forum.

Thanks for the help! Looking like I may just sandblast and paint.

            You might look into powdercoating

Mine were powercoated by PO. Including the spare.

I think I would try the galvanizing. It is worth a try anyway. It isn't like the 15" rims go for a premium.

I had my rims galvanized about 14 or 15 years ago. I've run them tubed and tubeless over the years and haven't had a single problem with them. I think the trick is after they are dipped, take the time to clean them up nicely getting rid of all the drips and splatter, especially around the edge where the tire beads. If you are going with tubes, you will need to make sure everywhere the tube will touch is clean and smooth.

I would so do it again... and will with my 110 rims this summer.

LanerRover, I think that Canadian dude you met is a buddy of mine, Larry Berti. He did his rims the same time I did mine. His are still going strong as well. I've got the same drop down tray on my tailgate as he did. Beauty piece of kit.

Thats him! Tell him that I say hello! Always loved that extra drop down tail gate and may make one for one of my Rover's.

I have a galvanized spare rim. We cleaned the tire bead area real good and it has been fine tubeless. The tire did require a bit of weight to balance it. Not sur if that was the galvanizing or the rim to start with.
