    Tranny /Motor stand

Is the tranny strong enough to be hung from an engine stand by just four bolts through the bell housing or does it need other support from below.

Really, has no one ever worked on a transmission off of an engine stand. Is there a reason for this that I'm not getting or is there a better more convenient way? Other than throwing it on a bench and muscling it around.

Could you rig up something to support the weight of the gearbox/transfer case while the engine is on the stand?

I don't think it would be that helpful to have it bolted to an engine stand because once you unbolt the bell housing from the gearbox (early in the disassembly process) all the heavy pieces are no longer supported. Once the whole thing is up on a good strong bench, it's not that hard to move around and it just gets easier as you unbolt more stuff.

I too vote for just tossing it on a bench to work on it. Besides Sean, considering your line of work this thing should be nothing to move around!
