    Napa alternator for 2.5L NA J19

    I have a 2.5L NA J19 diesel in a lightweight I imported from England, RHD but the motor is not original obviously, it is from a defender.

    Does anyone know what the Napa part equivalent would be or what the specs are for the unit?

      Presumably you have a Lucas A127 / 45 installed. This is a 45 amp alternator. When you run that part number (A127) through the NAPA website it comes up with several variants of the A127; A 45 amp unit, NAPA p/n NAE 12144. There's a 55 amp A127 alternator (they came in a few different output ratings) NAPA part # NAE 12072. Here's the NAPA 70 amp version of the A127, p/n NAE 12088.

      There's a 2-pulley variant of the A127 55-amp alternator, NAPA part #NAE 12046.

      I changed my alternator to an A133 80 amp unit from NAPA as it was a bolt-in replacement. NAPA p/n NAE 13436.

      NOTE: The first replacement alternator I got from NAPA was bad; They exchanged it for another that I've been using for the past 6 years.

          I took some measurements and played with a Bosch 80 amp internaly regulated alternator last weekend. I think I can see how I can make some brackets up to mount this unit. In the case of my 109 there is no other wiring so nothing has to be adapted

              I found that the connector on the alternator burned away most of the post tung on one of the connectors. After cleaning it and tightening the connector, it is working fine, but I am sure I will have to replace it soon.

              Does it matter if the output is a higher amperage? I know if you recharge a battery too fast, it can shorten the life of the battery. For instance, if you do a quick charge at a shop with one of the big boxes, too often it will shorten its life.

              Anyway, thank you again for the information. We did find the NAE 12144 listed but NAPA cannot seem to get one from any suppliers.

                  No problem in fitting a bigger alternator, I had 80 amp on the 2,5 N/A Diesel 12J I once had.
