Early Series III lamps-gaskets and plinths

    Hello all,

Thought I'd ask about lamps also, as I've been looking at mine lately.

When I remove them for paint, I would like to replace the lamp to body rubber seals/plinth and the lens to lamp body gaskets.

So, on my 72 Series III, I have the following:

L760 Lucas clear lamps on the front (2).....where can I get both the lamp to body seal and the lamp to lens gasket?

L692 Lucas rear lamps (2).....easy....same as my Imp or a big Healey

L833 Lucas directional lamps (4).....impossible....but mine are good and I'll make do

L841 Lucas side marker lamps (4)....where can I get the rubber "plinth" on which the lens and chrome surround sits?

    Reverse lamps....easy....same as MGB

    Thanks,
    Julian

      Terry,

      Thanks....found them (Spitfire)...but $135 PER LAMP!

      I can't spend $600 on a set of 4 lamps

Perhaps I can rebuild my existing plinths. I used an epoxy called PC7 on my steering wheel resto....well might be worth a shot.

          Thanks,

A few vendors had repros of these at the British Invasion - $14 each, and made of nice silicone rubber. Look like they'd last forever.

I'll try to track a source down for you. Send me a pm if you don't hear from me in the next week.

            Ted--

Awesome....if you can get them for $14 each consider 4 sold

            Art--

I checked through your site....no side lamps. I see the lens RNC528 for the Lucas L760 clear front one....I just need the gasket/body and lens gasket/lamp holder.....but perhaps there isn't one anyway? Or does the lens come with the gasket?

            Cheers,
            Julian

Knac, you might have to do some deep/wide searching (and I don't recall if I saw it here or elsewhere) but there was a guy (in England, I think) who was molding brand new plinths for those side markers, for a VERY reasonable price (I think it was ~$14 - would be fine, even with shipping).

Until I saw that, I assumed I'd been priced out of the market for refurbing mine (not done yet, too many BIG fish to fry!). I was going to switch to Defender-style sides, but if that guys still making them, eventually will redo the originals.

Note that my search could have also included searching for cross-pollination to other cars that used the same plinth.

That's the price for the whole lamp. I bought four rubber back plates and it seems to me they were about $15 ea.

Did a little searching and found an earlier thread, but it appears the supplier referred to is now listing the plinths as NLA. http://www.englishparts.com/products...6/282-260.html

The exact same lights were used on 70-on Midgets, and Moss seems to be saying they have the plinths for $15. http://www.mossmotors.com/Shop/ViewP...exID=29347#top

Tedw's reference to Silicone molded plinths in this thread sound like that would be "problem solved" if we could figure out where they came from.

Seem? They are saying it. I have bought 2 sets in the past year from them.

Terrys: Did they have the flat bases or the angled bases? If they had the flat bases (like the ones I saw) it sounds like our search is over.

                            Great,

Yes, Terry those were the entire lamp assemblies. Looks like RDS also has them (NOS) for about the same price!

If anyone can confirm they (Midget ones) are exact for sure, let me know (and a Moss part # if possible)! I was under the impression that a Triumph Spitfire used the same plinth, but in Moss and elsewhere it is NLA. But, if the Midget one works and fits the lens and chrome surround I have properly, I'll go for it!

And I just placed an order with Moss yesterday for some threshold plates for the Imp

This is from reading, not personal experience, but everything I see points to the Midget after 1970 using the FLAT base lights exactly like the Rovers. The Spits use an angled base version to compensate for curved body surfaces where the lights were mounted.

The link to the Moss part is in the post above above. (part# 282-260)

The "seems" Terrys, was a vague reference to me not checking to make sure I wasn't looking at a cached, un-redirected, old, or otherwise non-current version of that page - but thanks for the confirmation!).
