    Vehicle Shipping

    Any advice?

I've got to move a truck (Scout) from the Southwest to here in New England. I've called Shannon (they don't do autos), Forward Air (ditto), DAS Auto Shippers ($1,618), and UShip ($1,412).

Who have others used? I know gas is getting pricey, but these quotes are not for enclosed containers. Just a regular auto carrier.

    Thanks.

I've used http://www.carmoves.com/ in Tempe, AZ for two Porsche's before. Open transport, one was a 1987 944 the other a 1976 Carrera 3.0 targa. This was several years ago, not sure on costs, but was worth it, arrived as they left with a little dirt

Thanks Thompson. I'll give them a call. If nothing else, I can provide a running commentary on what it costs to ship a vehicle these days.

I had a truck moved last spring from Grand Juntion CO to Kingston NY for about $1200. I dont remember who off hand but most of the quotes were about the same.I goggled auto transport and got ten quotes in no time.Make sure they know the height ,because they get a lttle more for a SUV.And really nail they down on the price. Good luck

you should try out uship: http://www.uship.com/vehicles/

you post the details and get bids, used it for a short haul from RI to ME, pretty good experience though they take a small chunk.. but you get to talk to the driver directly instead of a broker. I got screwed when I got my rover shipped because it was too tall despite me telling the broker the height over and over again and asking if it was going to be a problem.

i was looking into shipping my 109 from KY to MA and called a few ones from a quick web search and was quoted around 500-700 bucks. Saw a guy with a super duty and 3 or 4 car trailer at a rest stop a while back, he said that smaller guys like himself are much cheaper than big rig ones. Usually you have to go through a broker but they are not hard to find. He said he would charge around 400 for the trip, though your dates usually have to be pretty flexible. I ended up just renting a uhaul trailer and will tow it back myself next week. Thats how i got it here anyway...only on a dolly not full trailer.

FWIW shipped my Series III, 4 half pallets of parts, an extra alpine roof, and a few other bits for $1400 late October 2010 from IN to CO.

                  You can try, www.parsinc.com
They move vehicles across the US.
But, I don't know how competitive they'll be in pricing

I used these guys, http://www.autotransportdirect.com/ to move my series I about 4 years back. From what I remember the price was right. Good luck with it.

Thanks All for the sites. I've gotten about 12 quotes today (including UShip Cutter). It's rounding out to a high of $1,700 and a low of $1,025 - as an FYI to anyone wondering today's going rate. Still worth it to me to get a clean truck with minimal rust. Albersj51 - it's a Scout 80. They're good little trucks as long as you have time to get where you're going.

I'll make sure I stress the truck height. I'm estimating it's 6' 3" sitting on 15" tires and a regular suspension. But I'd guess the car carriers should be able to handle that.

There are a couple of haulers who post over at the Dodge Power Wagon Forum.

                        Check over there.

should be fine with 6'3", mine was 7'4" so they couldn't stack anything on top or below it- had way better luck with the individual haulers with a single level trailer.

I used Dependable Auto Shippers (DAS) a few years ago to ship a Saab from Portland Oregon to NJ (where the nearest hub to VT was). It cost about $850 with full insurance and took about a week to get here.
