my land rover an the california highway patrol

+This was in the early 1970's.
I was driving along on interstae 80 in san diego, my hometown at the time..when it first started...
driving in traffic keeping the same speed ans cars ahead behin and beside me in on the freeway..A CHP pulls up behind me and I get the red lights from the cruiser..pull over and he tells me " I was speeding" I say "I was going just as fast as everyone else" He says "thats no excuse get a ticket for speeding....
A few days later I get stopped again this time for my tires touching the fog line, the officer says "your a good driver, I've been following you for twenty minutes before you did something wrong"!!!
Get stopped again for diong 56MPH. speeding ticket..
Stopped again for crackes wiper blade!!!
it gets to the point when a CHP vehicle is behind me I exit the freeway or just turn on my hazards and pull over without any sign that CHP is going to stop me.
I'm stopped again, for what I don't recall, sit in front seat of CHP car an BS about rover and other crap, Officer says its time for his break and invites me to lunch!!!... I ask him how come I keep getting pulled over almost evertime I'm on the highway...he says "I will deny telling you this but, we have an informal contest in CHP that is like a bird watching list with makes and models of all vehicles on the road, and you have to issue a citation to cross them off your list...re: Land rover (rare bird) worth stopping...shortly afterward I moved to Alaska..been here ever since...Just one of the joys of owning a land rover..bobzinak

Getting a speeding ticket in a series is worth bragging about!

          Sheesh--A written warning wouldn't suffice?

A written worning would be like catch and release to the bird analogy. Probably more acceptable in CA now than it was in the 1970's.

Andrew I'll help you out... Growing up in NorCal I know this all to well. Early morning skiing trips you'd leave the bay area around 3:45 am so you could be on the first groomed or uncut runs early. "Tule Fog" is something that you encounter in the winter time through much of central California and Sac area driving up Hwy 50 or Hwy 80 - gets totally gnarley thick. I've heard that truckers used to just drive by opening their door and looking down at the fog line.

Bob good story! [I've got some of my own stories for early in Hwy 5 history but, not for this forum...]
