I'm taking off from Charlotte, NC on Monday AM heading for Northern NY. Will be going through Binghamton area Tuesday late. Looking for a camping spot Mid/Upper Va, Not to far from RT 81. Preferably where there's some water where I can do some flatwater paddling.

Have you checked for National Parks and campgrounds? There are 40 locations in VA. I don't know which ones are in northern VA, but the reservations/info website is: http://www.recreation.gov/recgovHome...pTabIndex=Home
Same with Virginia State Parks and Campgrounds. Their site: http://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state_parks/cabgen.shtml
Stays are usually dirt cheap at these state and national parks and are generally reservable online.
[EDIT] I might be too late...looks like you are departing this morning... [/EDIT]--Mark

No you're not to late. I'm leaving Charlotte next Monday. I'm still in NY heading to Charlotte this Wednesday. I have all my trip down stays figured out. I'll nee to check these sites.
Spent this last weekend getting the 109 ready to go. Shouldn't say this but it is running great after the fuel pump replacement and a full tune up, oil change, all fluid levels checked / topped off.
Deciding what to take along as far as parts. Have my tools and a supply of fluids on board.THING 1 - 1973 88 SIII - SOLD

Sorry this sounds vague and like I've been drinking the state kool-aid, but I always find it more difficult finding a bad spot in that area of the state than finding a great one. We spend a ton of time along 81 in between Roanoke and Harrisonburg but we're not water people just hikers/campers. Hope you have a great time.

If you make it to southern Pa. there are a few places to camp in York County, but it is a bit off of I-81. Heck, we'd let you camp at our place, as we've 30 acres and the Susquehanna River is right out back with good canoe or kayak access just down the hill. We go yakkin' often.

I just remembered this one....
Sherando Lake takes you about 15-20 minutes off I-81 but is a campground closer to the Northern End of I-81 in Virginia and it has a lake for your paddling.
But like all the other guys said.... hard to strike out in the Shenandoah Valley.Firemanshort
