can i put a positive earth generator on negative earth engine?

hey! my alternator went out yesterday on my rover, i have two rovers for parts but they are positive earth, my rover is a 64 2.25L gas negative earth, the junk rovers are 68ish 2.25L gas pos earth, can i just take the generator off the positive earth and put on the negative earth engine? if so can i just run the charging wires straight to the battery? the previous owner has a homemade wiring harness so im trying not to tap into it

You can run the generator, but you will need to flash the field to convert it to produce electricity in a negative earth setting. If the rover you are taking the generator from has been sitting for a while, you may need to flash the field coil anyway. Teri-Ann has a section on her site on how to convert to Negative earth, and it should cover how to do it on there. http://www.expeditionlandrover.info/...Conversion.htm
