First (2) Rovers were '86 S1s that my daughters drove (1 of) to high school. That was '93 to '99. Second one, a '72 S3 purchased trashed by PO in 2005, have had it ever since.

1960 Series II since May 2008
      1997 Defender 90 since July 2010

At this time I own no other cars.
I don't plan on selling either until I can no longer drive them - and then I will pass them to my nephew. I am addicted.

Bought my first Brit car, a Morris 1000 2 door, in 1959. Bought the Disco in June of '94 and drove home from the dealer as OJ was making his slow run down the LA freeway. Bought the 69 2A in June of '99 and the series 1 in Dec. 01. Longest owned vehicle is 65 Volvo Canadian purchased new and now sitting in garage awaiting resto. Daily driver is 86 240 Volvo (owned since new) approaching 400,000 miles.

response to "how long have you owned LR'

Purchased my first 1965 2a, ex MOD (RAF) in 1986. Drove two years before restoration. Purchased american market 69 (88inch) to suppliment rebuild of 1965. Same year purchased defender 90, drove defender 11 years, many fond memories on the power lines here in CT, although it never seemed to pass a gas station. Yes one rover is just not enough.

I bought a 2000 LR Discovery Series II brand new when I graduated from college, and got my first job. It was my first foray into the SUV market after owning pick-up trucks, and needing a family kid hauler. It was a great truck, but I had a bit of a love/hate relationship with it, as I lived over 1.5 hours from the only dealer in Maine, and no one would work on it in the area I live in, even after the warranty expired. I finally sold it in 2008, and replaced it with a Lexus GX470, which I have to admit is much more luxurious and reliable than the Disco ever was.

In 2009, I couldn't take not having a Land Rover anymore, and while I was looking for a Series rig for over 6 years, I finally found a classified ad for a 1966 series IIA station wagon model in Kittery Point, Maine. A deal was made, and I have spent the last 3 years now trying to get it to be a reliable toy to use for camping, enjoying, and treking with. Because the P.O. didn't know anything about general maintenance, I have found myself doing a slow rolling restoration, system by system as problems arise. It is a great project for my 9 year old son and I to play with on the weekends, and I wouldn't trade it for the world.

I have owned mine since last November and slowly working on it to get it to my liking. Enjoying tinkering on it as I go.

1971 2A bought in jan 1972, from first owner. first car I ever bought, still have her..over forty years...can identify probably any part inside or out.mostly because I've had to fix it at some time or another..but has never left me stranded, and still is my favorite...something about having a vehicle that you don't have to look to activate a switch, because you've done it a thousand times before. rove on bobzinak...

A little over 2 years, but I discovered it had a bad engine bearing job a few months into owning it so I didn't have it for most of the first year. Getting familiar with most of the bits now, been a great learning experience.

wow. that is beyond cool. did it still smell brand new??!!!

i got my first in college 1963 IIA 88, and held on to it for a good 4 years. regret getting rid of it. got my second on September 10, 2001 and parked it in my driveway, a 1/4 mile from where 2 of the hijackers were staying (Boston). had that ever since though it's a complete teardown and kind of s-l-o-w. but nice to know everything is being done right, or so i hope .

I've only owned my rover for 12 months. Though it is now in pieces I hope to have it on the road again in the next 12-24 months.

I can claim longer ownership, but it is via family lineage. My father bought it in 1964, and it was a farm vehicle until he died and it was parked in 1979. From then until 2010 it sat unused and essentially abandoned. It came back to me only because the property had been sold to friends of the family. But since I learned to drive in this rover, it feels like it has always been mine.

Lately, I've been thinking that my father made a mistake in not getting the green bible and getting me started on it decades ago.

Posted once, but have attached again a photo from 1964 of me and my father and the rover- when we were all considerably younger.

IN the last year this insane, mechanical project has given me enormous pleasure.
